Abstract: The creation of a stimulating environment undoubtedly represents a significant factor for the learning and development of students, it is a kind of “reflexive influence” of the person with the environment and vice versa. This implies much more than the rearrangement of the space or the provision of necessary material means for work, nor the realization of the planned activities. That is why today in pedagogical science, the issue of creating a stimulating environment is given a special place, considering as a so-called third teacher, which, among other things, affects the overall development of the student.

The research problem refers to considering the alignment and scope of professional competencies and standards of teachers in relation to creating a stimulating learning environment for primary school students. The purpose refers to the research of the content of appropriate documents, programs, attitudes and opinions, related to the professional competencies and standards of teachers in terms of stimulating environment for student learning. Research methods have a descriptive character, through the application of certain approaches. Content analysis and semi-directive interviews with teachers and focus groups with students from pedagogical faculties were applied. The results indicate certain aspects of the stimulating environment that are unevenly and differently ensured by the professional competencies and standards of the teachers, in the process of professional training and in the study programs for teacher education. The conclusion of the research points to the need for continuity, the introduction of modern knowledge, approaches and the cooperation of all relevant parties in achieving quality in creating a stimulating learning environment.
