Abstract: For proper and successful teaching, the characteristics and mode of work of university professors are important. Professors’ communication with students depends on it: what is their style of teaching; whether and how creative they are and able to motivate students; whether and how much they respect students’ opinions; how students perceive how exams are taken and graded; as well as other factors that will be considered relevant to the study.

By implementing the findings in practice, we believe that we will improve the teaching work in the interest of producing better quality teaching staff.

The subject of the research is the examination of students’ opinions and attitudes about the peculiarities of university professors. The aim of the study is to examine students’ opinions and attitudes about the characteristics of university professors.

In the research we use the theoretical-analytic and analytical-descriptive methods. As a research technique, we use student surveying, which we conduct with the questionnaire instrument.

Overall, the conclusions we came to in the research are that students:

  • Are pleased with the way the professors communicate with them;
  • Believe that professors should organize classes in which students will be more active;
  • Embrace professors’ creative approach to teaching material;
  • Think that greater social cohesion should be ensured in the group during lessons;
  • Require a more flexible way of administering exams.

According to the conclusions, it is necessary to correct some of the characteristics of professors, which would eventually be regulated by an internal code of professional conduct.
