Abstract: The problem of the musical competence of the modern teacher is central, particularly significant and discussed by the pedagogical community. Placed at one of the leading positions in front of the modern academic training of students of pedagogical specialties, it covers to a large extent the processes of increasing the level of music literacy and knowledge of musical writing by future teachers. The article describes a study of the student attitude towards training in the course “Theoretical Foundations of Music”. Special attention is paid to the information shared by the respondents related to difficulties encountered in the performance of assigned semester tasks and self-preparation.
