Abstract: In the space of creative expression there are themes that are persistently and invariably present. One of the eternal and concentrated emotional and philosophical dynamics is the theme of death. In the 14th and 15th centuries, two themes emerged in Western European culture – „Triumph of Death” and „Dance of Death” („Danse macabre”), whose original potential aroused the creative charge of a galaxy of artists. Vivid artifacts of medieval visual art, they are an impulse for a multilayered palette of manifestation and communicative dynamics in the visual arts in the Modern Age and our time.
