Abstract: The presented research analyzes the challenges and opportunities for the students – future teachers of information technology. The outpacing development of digital technologies and the deficits in the content for preparation of the students from the school course, as well as the accumulated gaps in the specialized disciplines from the first and second year, are part of the problems that accompany the students during their academic training. One option to overcome the created situation is the introduction of a propaedeutic stage to compensate for gaps in the educational content of IT and to form skills for dosing, structuring and presenting it to an audience. The research was done during the lectures and exercises in the subject “School course in IT 5.-7. class”, in which preliminary preparation was carried out for conducting current pedagogical practice in real school conditions. The course project assigned to the students is an assignment for the preparation and presentation of three topics from the information technology curriculum for the junior high school stage. The summary and analysis of the obtained results outline different profiles of the students, according to their achievements. The provided technological time and supportive environment enable learners to reflect on their own activity and receive guidance on overcoming unproductive stereotypes when preparing learning content and presenting it to an audience. The feedback given at this preliminary stage provides them with the opportunity to make adjustments to their ideas so that they can successfully implement the activities of the current practice and prepare their methodological developments in the lessons.
